About Adriana

Hola! My name is Adriana. I was born and raised in Puebla, Mexico. I am the youngest of five sisters, who I am very close with. I then moved to Florida and attended Jacksonville University on a full ride for cross country/track and earned my degree in Biology. I met my husband Nathan in college and we have been together for almost 20 years! We have two wonderful boys and an adopted four legged daughter named Hanna.

We are a military family who have moved and traveled a lot, including living in Italy and Japan. My passion for the mountains and trail running was born in Japan through a dear friend. Throughout the years I developed an interest in learning about other cultures and languages. I have met a lot of interesting people in my life and I feel there is always something to learn from each and every one of them.

Now I am happy to call O'ahu my permanent home. I work as a substitute teacher in Hawai'i Kai. I enjoy working out, dancing, hiking and spending time with my love ones. I also love to eat and cook Mexican food of course!!

Hiking in Hawai'i is different, with trails not always easy to find. It was with the help of friends in the hiking community that I developed knowledge of the O'ahu trails, including recently hiking the entire Ko'olau and Wai'anae summit trails. My goal is now to share my passion for the mountains and trails with others in the safest way possible. Let us guide you, so you too can experience the beauty of our Island.

About Lena

Aloha! My name is Lena Haapala. I’m an island girl born and raised on O'ahu. I graduated from Pearl City High School and attended beauty college in San Diego, CA. I have been a licensed Esthetician/Makeup Artist in California and Hawai'i for 26 years and a licensed Cosmetic Tattoo Artist for 4 years.

Everything happens for a reason and I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to live on the east and west coast, but my Hawai'i always called me home. I was thrilled for my children to experience growing up “local style”, the way I was raised here on O'ahu. Slippahs everyday, hiking after school, surf until sunset, diving with marine life!

Now, I live in Pālolo Valley with my husband, daughter, and two crazy rescue pups, Miso and Soba. Occasionally I get visits from my son who recently graduated from Arizona State University.

I love hiking in the Ko'olau’s, freediving in the middle of the week, surfing with my family, and continuing my education through volunteering in the community. I am also on the Board of Directors with the Kokonut Koalition. The Kokonut Koalition 501(c)3 is responsible for protecting, preserving, and rehabilitating the Koko Crater Stairs in East Honolulu, Hawaii.

I want to continue being a good steward to our islands, our trails, our culture and I would love to share that with you. Come and hike with us!
